Delaware County, through the County Department of Public Works, is proceeding with the construction of a new surface parking lot located on Front and Orange Streets. The goal of the project is to increase parking opportunities for County employees and visitors who are accessing County services. In addition, the parking lot will be open to the general public after business hours and will help to increase parking capacity downtown.
One contractor was awarded the project and will be working on the site for the next 6 months. The anticipated completion date is March 2024. Construction activities began the week of September 11th. For the next six months, work on the surface lot will occur from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. During the construction kick-off meeting with the contractor, they were reminded of the times permitted for construction activities by the Borough of Media and to be mindful of noise because the project is adjacent to residential areas.
Due to the lack of space in and around the parking garage, the contractor is developing a plan for parking and storage of their construction materials. Where possible, the County will facilitate access to the vacant parcel between Orange and Citron St, and Amber and Second St. with the contractors assigned to the sprinkler project underway at the Government Center garage. The gates on both lots will remain secured.
For your safety and that of the workers, residents should remain vigilant, obey the speed limit, turn headlights on, and drive carefully in and around the project site during construction. The county remains in communication with the Borough of Media to discuss coordination on all the construction projects and the impact it could have on nearby residents. If you have any questions or concerns related to this project, please contact the Department of Public Works at 610-891-4668.
