At its May legislative meeting, Borough Council unanimously approved participating in the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs Junior Councilperson program. The program provides youth in Media with an opportunity to engage in borough government and develop leadership skills. It will provide Council with an important perspective and provide the Junior Councilperson with invaluable experience in local government.
Here are some specifics for the role:
The term shall be during the student’s school year.
The Junior Councilperson shall be a Media Borough resident and a high school or college student.
The Junior Councilperson shall, upon appointment, take a “Junior Councilperson Pledge.”
The Junior Councilperson is a volunteer role.
The Junior Councilperson shall be permitted to attend any meetings of Council and any public committee meetings and shall be permitted to participate fully in those proceedings, EXCEPT that they shall not be afforded the right to vote and shall not be permitted to attend executive sessions.
