Have you noticed WalkWorks little signs all over Media Borough?
They are part of an effort sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health to increase walking in the borough for health and well-being.
Walking is one of the best and most convenient forms of exercise and can burn up to 8.5 calories per minute. Last fall, WalkWorks staked out safe and accessible walking routes in three municipalities in the county: Media, Lansdowne and South Lansdowne/Yeadon. The well-marked routes are loops, designed for individuals of all ages and abilities, and take walkers past structures of interest in each community.
The Media Route is 1.8 miles long, and is posted along the way with little signs like the one in the photo above. It starts at Media Borough Hall and passes by the Minshall House, Media Theater, Media Elementary School and Barrall Park, Media-Upper Providence Library and the Delaware County Courthouse and Government Center. WalkWorks seeks to encourage individuals to increase their walking activity and to promote the formation of community-based walking groups.
Brochures and Route Packets with Personal Activity Logs are available in the second floor foyer of Media Borough Hall or visit the WalkWorks website for a PDF of the route.
